Erta is the name of the “Mother Goddess” and also the name given to the planet upon which her “Children”, the four Realms reside.  Legend has it that Erta gave birth to four children: Natura, Necro, Elementa and Mecho, who formed the four Realms and are in a constant struggle amongst themselves for Erta’s affections.

Myth and legend continue to describe how the fighting and power struggles amongst Erta’s children nearly destroyed all five of them, forcing Erta to take actions to ensure that no one child gained more power or prestige than the others.  Erta then created The Balance, which is the philosophy that all living things, Realms and people must share equally of Erta’s gifts to ensure peace and harmony through out the Realms.  Each of the four Realms has their own opinion and philosophy on how they do their part to maintain The Balance.

The Balance influences everything in the Realms from business dealings to the political and social leadership within each Realm.  Each Realm has roughly the same number of De’Lani users with roughly the same amount of power.  Erta also promotes one special individual, called The Realmwalker to be her Archon and help smooth out and manage relations between the realms.  The Realmwalkers are always Spirit De’Lani, which allows Erta’s will to be felt by that individual and for them to bond directly with the magnificent Sword of Angios.
